The shoes are what broke me when I visited the US Holocaust Memorial Museum years ago…the smallest ones most of all.
Every one of their wearers and every one of those whose shoes are not in DC…every ONE of the Jews, the Poles, the Roma, the Soviets, the Latvians, the other Slavs, the dissidents both political and clerical, the homosexuals, the Jehovah’s Witnesses, the Freemasons, the physically and mentally challenged, the prostitutes and alcoholics and others deemed unfit for society…every SINGLE INDIVIDUAL ONE of the 11 million had a name, had a life, had loved ones and ones who loved them…every one of those tortured, maimed, and slaughtered was a child of God.
Tomorrow is Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day. I hope I do remember.
